How come jeans that are the same brand, same size, and same cut fit tighter than others?

There are slight variations in sewing. If one sewer takes even a 1/16″ bigger seam allowance than specified, the resulting garment will be 1/2 ” tighter around. Tolerance will allow slight variations because jeans are sewn by human hands, just not big variations.

Beside above, why do some jeans fit and some don t? Different manufacturers, different cuts, different dimensions even if the pants are your size. Some manufacturers have waist measurements in excess of your actual waist measurement. So a size 34 may actually have a 36 inch waist circumference on the garment. Other brands don’t do vanity sizing.

Frequent question, why are jean sizes so inconsistent? Vanity sizing is a tactic used by clothing companies to make the consumer feel slimmer than what they actually are.
