Generally, jeans should be long enough to reach the tops of your feet with a little extra fabric, but short enough that the hems aren’t dragging on the ground. Jeans promote an effortless style, so their fit should reflect that.

Where should the bottom of your jeans fall?

Jeans should sit still and comfortably on your upper hip without a belt. The legs must be long enough that they break towards the hem, which should gently touch the top of your foot. You’ll want the inseam close to your thigh without the jeans pulling at your knee when you sit. I don’t say this lightly.

  1. Pinching or red marks at your waist.
  2. Showing too much ankle.
  3. Bunching at the bottom.
  4. The zipper zips up – but doesn’t stay there.
  5. The dreaded back gap.
  6. Muffin-top.
  7. Too tight in the thighs and backside.

Should you size up or down in jeans?

Always take the smaller size as cotton tends to grow when it doesn’t have a stretch fabric mixed into the cotton. It will shrink slightly on washing and stretch again when worn.

Why do jeans never fit me?

It just means that they are not your size or shape. Or perhaps the relative proportions of the legs and upper part of the trousers don’t match the proportions of your body. Unfortunately, 30″ is the lowest inseam most brands will go lower to. I’ve even bought some chinos from Walmart as they seemed reasonably nice, and they offered them with a 29″ inseam. It of course was way better than my 30″ pants. However, it could still be trimmed by an inch or even half an inch.

What length pants should a 5’11 man wear?

Straight-leg jeans tend to sit a bit higher – nearer to your waist than your hips – so go for something that’s snug enough that they won’t drop down. Just because the legs are looser, that doesn’t mean anywhere else should be.

Will the waist of jeans stretch?

All jeans will stretch to varying degrees over time, explains Dean Brough, academic program director of QUT’s school of design. “Jeans by nature actually do stretch. The fabric is meant to morph and form to the body which is why we love them,” he says.

No need to worry! That jeans are becoming tighter after they have just been freshly washed is completely normal. Generally it should be sufficient to just go for a walk for an hour or so with those jeans on to get back their original size.
