Underwear FAQs

Frequent question: Can underwear transmit hiv

Last Updated on January 13, 2022 by Sarah Keene

Hi there: The answer is no. HIV cannot be transmitted this way. The virus does not live well outside the body, so even if there was HIV present, it would be unable to infect you.

You asked, can HIV be spread through clothes? Even if you have a detectable viral load, there must be a direct way for the virus to get into another person’s blood stream – a bit like going through a door. Getting HIV infected blood on your skin or clothes etc is not a risk.

Likewise, can HIV spread through pants? Hi there: HIV transmission does not occur in situations like this. HIV does not live well outside of the human body. If there was any virus present, it would not be able to infect another person.
